VSAR3017 - Introduction to the course

This blog is purely for my studies of Indigenous Art, Culture and Design at UniSA. I was not entirely enthusiastic with this subject (as it is a requirement to complete for the DBVC course I am completing) and before this course begun I honestly had pre-conceived ideas about Indigenous People and their Art, Culture and Design. However, after one lesson both my opinions and ideas have changed about the Indigenous People and I am very intrigued to find out more about their history and art/design pieces they have done.

What I know about the Indigenous People is very minimal although I have learnt about them in both primary and high school. Here they focused mainly on the Pitjantjatjara people and Dreamtime stories like the Rainbow Serpent. In Art in high school we looked at dot paintings and had to create our own.

From completing school I have not had anything to do with the Indigenous People other than occasionally visiting the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Museum of South Australia both of which present Indigenous art and artefacts both which I have had only a slight interest in before this course. I hope to explore this vast culture and hope to experience more of the Indigenous Peoples art and design throughout this term to especially understand the Indigenous Peoples culture and to help disassociate them with the form of stereotyping many Australians have of them.
